On Nov. 10th we accepted a transfer from another rescue in the area, Rest Your Paws Refuge out of Quincy FL. They had been caring for a yellow lab mix spayed female, est. to be about 1 year old (DOB 1-14-20). She had serious deformation of her left rear leg, with the left stifle deranged and the distal part of left rear leg pointing backwards then back forward again, impeding her ability to use her right rear leg too. She had a perpetual “crouch” to her walk. The left leg was fused in this position with severe muscle wastage. Amputation of the deformed left rear leg would be necessary for her to have any chance at a normal life. It is unknown if the leg problem was a congenital issue or related to an injury. The left rear leg was amputated Nov. 23rd. Now she can run and play like any other dog. However, it turns out her right rear leg is not perfect either. She was still weak on it and palpation shows severe luxation of the right patella (knee cap). Sierra had another surgery to repair the right knee. The strength of her right rear leg is improving daily and she does not seem to have pain so she is now available for adoption.
