On March 1st, 2021 a very ill, approx. 1 year old Boston Terrier Mix (big Boston Terrier mix- she weighs 35lbs) came to Northwood on emergency. She had been purchased on Facebook, then given to this family. She had never been to the vet before. What they thought was a normal heat cycle turned out to be a serious emergency. The dog’s vaginal mucosa had swollen to the point of prolapse, with a large amount or her vaginal tissue protruding out through her vulva. The tissue was infected and necrotic. The dog needed emergency surgery to spay and debride the dead tissue. The owners could not manage her treatment so she was relinquished. The dog was also pretty anemic, likely from hookworm infection. The dog, we named Delores, went to emergency surgery that day and did very well. Delores is recovering well from her surgery. She is being treated for intestinal parasites and has started on her “puppy” vaccines. Delores is such a love bug-everyone at Northwood spoils her. She has been deemed healthy enough for adoption. So if you have been wanting a Boston Terrier on steroids (size wise), Delores is the one for you.
