On Feb 7, 2022 a severely traumatized 8 week old female German Shepherd was brought to Northwood Animal Hospital on emergency.  She had been purchased 2 days prior to her visit.  They brought her home where one of their other adult German Shepherds attacked her, causing significant brain injury.  The puppy was in a coma at the time of presentation due to severe head trauma.  Her prognosis was poor.  The owner relinquished her to the hospital for care.  It took about a week before she was awake and able to stand/walk at all.  Her recovery was gradual, but eventually she made an almost complete recovery. She can still be a little wobbly at times, and is at risk for seizures later in life, but otherwise she is like a normal, sweet German Shepherd. We named her Frankie.  Her DOB is 12-9-21.  She was initially adopted in April 2022 by one of the technicians who cared for her while she was so ill.  Life circumstances resulted in her no longer being able to keep Frankie so she relinquished her back to the hospital June 2022.  Frankie has been spayed and had prophylactic gastropexy performed to prevent bloat/torsion in future (a condition that German Shepherds can be prone to developing).  She is current on vaccines, microchipped. Other than stumbling a bit here and there and walking with an exaggerated step (hypermetria) as a consequence of the severe brain injury she sustained as a puppy, she seems to be a  happy healthy dog.  She just needs her forever home.
