On 11-29-22 a stray small breed black and white (Chihuahua mix? Rat Terrier mix?) was found on Crawfordville Hwy near Stop and Save.  He had been hit by a car-sustaining injuries to his right front leg and right side of his chest.  He was relinquished to Northwood for care.  He was estimated to be about 1 year old (11-30-21).  He is a cryptorchid (one testicle had not descended into his scrotum) and was flea infested when found.  X Rays did not show any fractures, but he was very painful when touched.  Even now, he can be a bit reactive to being picked up, seemingly sensitive about his right front leg.  But he runs and jumps like nobody’s business.  We named him Dasher. He has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.  Now he just needs a home to “dash” around in with people that will spend time with him as he gets a little anxious when he’s alone.

Update: Dasher went to a new home in February 2023, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.  His house training abilities were lacking it seems, and he suffered from separation anxiety.  He was returned to CARE in April.  It was heartbreaking for the adopter.  She tried everything she could, putting him on anxiety medications and consulting with trainers,  but it was just not meant to be.  It seems that Dasher needs a home where someone will be with him much of the time.  If you are looking for a small breed dog who needs you desperately, Dasher might be the one for you.
