On Jan 29, 2023 a big boy Domestic short hair cat (orange and white tabby male neutered), weighing in at 17lbs! came to Northwood Animal Hospital on emergency.  He had been straining to urinate, going in and out of the litter box and vocalizing as if in pain.  On physical exam, his urinary bladder was large and firm.  The owner could not afford his treatment so she relinquished him to the hospital for care.  A decompressive cystocentesis was performed, using a needle and syringe to remove 120ml of urine from his bladder.   He was then started on high doses of pain medications and anti-inflammatory medications to see if he could start to urinate again on his own.  If this did not work, he was going to need surgery to place a urethral catheter to drain his bladder and flush out the debris.  Thankfully, that was not necessary as he did start to urinate on his own.  We renamed him Lasagna. He is a 6 ½ year old DSH.  He will be at risk for future issues with FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease), and maybe even full urethral obstruction in the future.  To prevent that, he has been placed on a special canned food that he should be on for life.  Lasagna is a sweet chunky boy (too chunky really) that is ready for the right home that will be relatively stress free (as stress does exacerbate his condition) and with someone willing to provide for his long term needs with special diet.  Is that person you?
