On June 23rd an injured blue and white male Pitbull Puppy (about 4 months old-DOB 2-2021) was brought in by his owners to Northwood Animal Hospital on emergency.  He had been in a crate with his littermates.  Two days earlier, the owner had noticed Zuko was not using his right front leg, holding it up.  Radiographs showed a humeral condyle  Salter Harris fracture.  The end of his humerus which articulates with his elbow had split.  This is a very challenging fracture to repair.  There is a risk the repair will not create a comfortable joint, resulting in chronic pain and arthritis.  The owners elected to relinquish him to the hospital for ongoing care.  On July 1st he had surgery to amputate the right front leg as it was deemed that surgical repair would likely not be successful.  Zuko has adapted well to being a 3 legged dog.  He was also treated for hookworms, whipworms and giardia,  and received his puppy vaccines.  He was neutered and microchipped 7-21-21 and is not available for adoption.  He is a special needs pet due to his amputation, but he gets around great.
